About the Chandigarh to Mussoorie route
Mussoorie is about 210 km from Tricity, usually five and a half to six and a half hours. The route runs through Ambala and Saharanpur to Dehradun, then climbs the last 35 km up the Rajpur road to the ridge.
Most of the drive is plains highway and only the final hour is hill road, which makes it an easier trip than the distance suggests. It is one of the most commonly booked weekend runs from Chandigarh.
The town is laid out along a single ridge between the Library end and Picture Palace, with Landour sitting a few kilometres higher and considerably quieter. Which end you stay at changes how much walking your trip involves.
Good to know before you travel
- The Mall Road is closed to vehicles for part of the day. Cabs park at the Library or Picture Palace ends and the town is covered on foot between them.
- Kempty Falls is the busiest stop on the route and the approach can be slow in season. Landour, a few kilometres above the town, is the quieter alternative.
- May and June are peak season and the last climb can back up badly. An early start out of Tricity makes a real difference on those weekends.
- Mussoorie pairs naturally with Dehradun, and with Haridwar or Rishikesh over a longer trip. Tell us the stops and they go into the itinerary.
